What causes hair loss?

Singapore is touted for its food but I believe the most of the food here contains too much MSG which may cause hair loss. Preservatives and chemicals are definitely no good for hair.
Though hair loss is quite common in Singapore, I saw an increasing hair loss trends in other countries too. Such a hair loss problem may also be caused by the thinning ozone layer.
